MONTEVALLO, Ala – The Montevallo baseball team scored 10 runs over the final four innings Sunday afternoon to post a 12-4 Peach Belt Conference victory over Lander and prevent the Bearcats sweep of the three-game series at Kermit A. Johnson Field.
Montevallo improves to 9-6 overall and 1-2 in the PBC, while Lander, which saw its five-game winning streak come to an end, moves to 7-8, (2-1).
The Falcons' Anthony Porter (2-0) tossed five scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
Lander's Garrett Lovorn (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs on five hits in one inning.
After Lander got on the scoreboard first on an RBI single from Alec Dowellthat scored Colton Yeager, Montevallo bounced back as Daniel Pardo scored on a wild pitch to even the score in the bottom of the frame.
Home runs from Ryan Troutman and Alec Dowell sandwiched around an RBI groudout for the Falcons gave Lander a 4-2 lead after three innings.
However, Montevallo rallied with a run in the fifth, five in the sixth and four in the eighth to pull away for the win.
For Lander, Dowell batted 3-for-5, while Matthew Furuto
Oliver went 4-for-5 for the Cougars, while McClellan batted 3-for-5.
Lander will next host Belmont Abbey at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 28, in a non-conference game.
