A pair of home runs and one a grand slam ignited an Abbeville Panthers offense that exploded for 19 runs against rival Greenwood in girls’ softball action Wednesday night at Greenwood High School.
Reghan Steifle kicked off the offensive output with a home run in the first inning. Kaitlyn Polatty followed that with a grand slam in the third inning, allowing the Panthers to seize control of the game.
Polatty was 3-for-3 with five RBI and Steifle was 4-for-4 with two runs driven in. Kaleigh Lollis and Kristen Smith chipped in with two hits each.
Panthers coach Tim Collins said he is excited about the 2017 campaign.
“We have played very well early in the season,” Collins said following the victory. “We hope to continue that momentum into region play.”
The Panthers carry a 9-3 record into region action at T.L. Hanna beginning next Wednesday.
