Lander's McKenzi Ferguson, a junior from Erwin, Tenn., was named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week for games played April 3-9 it was announced by the league office today.
Ferguson was 3-0 in four appearances last week, collecting three complete-game wins, two of them via shutout. The junior struck out seven in five innings in a complete game 8-0 win over Emmanuel, allowing three hits and a walk. She also went the distance against Georgia College, striking out seven and allowing only two earned runs in a 10-2 win. Ferguson pitched a three-hit shutout over Augusta with another seven strikeouts in a 1-0 game.
For the week, she had 21 strikeouts in 21 innings with a 1.33 ERA. Ferguson is now tied for second in the PBC in shutouts, is fifth in strikeouts and eight in ERA. She is the first Bearcat to earn PBC Pitcher of the Week honors since Hayley Leissner in 2011.
