The Lander baseball team placed five players on the Peach Belt Conference's All-Academic team, the PBC office announced today.
Tripper Ergle, Reed Gray, Robbie Hoyt, Carson Jones and Gatlin Minick earned all-academic honors for the Bearcats.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee the program.
Ergle, a sophomore computer information systems major from Blythewood, S.C., has made 18 appearances, including one start on the mound, this season.
Gray, a junior mass communications major from Tampa, Fla., leads the team with a .355 batting average and a .494 on-base percentage.
Hoyt, a sophomore buisness major from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., has made a team-high 23 appearances and earned three wins on the mound.
Jones, a sophomore exercise science major from Asheville, N.C., leads the Bearcats with 15 doubles and has driven in 36 runs on the year.
Minick, a sophomore business major from Greenwood, S.C., has appeared in 21 games and made eight starts this season.
