Lander baseball downs rival Erskine for 13th straight time

The Lander baseball team belted three home runs and pounded out 15 hits on Friday night, led by a 4-for-5 performance from Nathan Schreckengost, to defeat rival Erskine 10-9 in a non-conference game at Dolny Stadium.

Lander improves to 21-27 overall, while Erskine finishes the season at 25-25. The victory was the 13th straight for Lander over the Fleet.

Erskine took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single from Chris Rave and an error that plated Henry Faunce, but Lander struck back with a two-run homer from Schreckengost and an RBI single from Carson Jones in the bottom of the first to tie the game.

The Fleet reclaimed the lead with a pair of runs in the third inning, but the Bearcats answered again in the bottom of the fourth as Jones belted a solo home run and Ryan Troutman singled home Mason Dodd to even the score at 5-5.

Lander took its first lead of the night on an Alex Conaway home run in the bottom of the fifth. After Erskine tied the game on an RBI single from AJ Fabrizio in the top of the sixth, Colton Yeager put the Bearcats back on top with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth.

Lander stretched the lead to 10-6 in the seventh as Reed Gray drove in two run with a double down the left field line and scored on a single from Dodd.

Erskine attempted to rally late with a solo homer from Connor Greene in the eighth and a two-run home run from Rave in the ninth, but Marshall Thompson induced a pop up from Destin Nichols to end the game.

Pitching in his final game at Dolny Stadium, Lander senior Matt Thorpe (1-0) earned his second career win and his first ever win at home, allowing one run on one hit in 1.0 inning.

Erskine's Michael Carpin (6-6) took the loss after striking out four, walking one and allowing five earned runs on six hits in 3.0 innings.
