The SCCAWS North/South All Star Softball games were held at USC Aiken on June 13-15, 2017.
One local softball player received recognition that no other softball player in the Lakelands has before. Ninety Six Wildcat Mary Ashley Moore was awarded Most Valuable Player during a ceremony after that team won the championship game.
In the first game of the Class 5A/2A/1A, Moore drove in all three runs to defeat the South 3-2. Moore entered the game in the 5th inning where she hit a single scoring 2 runs which tied the game. Then in the 7th inning with two outs, Moore battled with two strikes by fouling off about 5 pitches before winning the game with a walk-off hit to right field scoring the winning run.
“I was thrilled to be selected to play with some of the best seniors in the state” says Moore. “
During the first game Moore had everyone on the edge of the bleachers as she continued to battle at the plate with two outs. We asked Moore what was going through her mind during that time. “All I know is that I was not going to strike out. The outside pitches keep coming and finally I got one. I had a great time.”
Also during the weekend, SCCAWS honored two from Crescent High School.
