The Lander University men's cross country team has been picked to finish eighth in a preseason poll of Peach Belt Conference coaches, released today by league officials.
The Bearcats, who begin their first season of competition since 1999, received two sixth-place votes and five seventh-place votes from the other seven Peach Belt Conference coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
Defending PBC champion Flagler was picked to finish first with three first-place votes and 43 points total, while Columbus State was picked second with 40 points and three first-place votes. Augusta received one first-place vote and 39 points total to be picked third, while UNC Pembroke received the final first-place vote and was picked fourth with 38 points.
Georgia College (24) was picked fifth, followed by Clayton State (20), Francis Marion (11) and the Bearcats (9).

The Bearcats will open up the season on Friday, September 1st, at the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
