No. 24 Lander falls behind early, drops road contest to Anderson

Anderson, S.C. – After achieving its first national ranking of the season, the No. 24-ranked Lander men's soccer team fell on the road to Anderson in a 3-2 decision. Freshman forward Thomas Joergsholm carried the Trojans in the upset win with two goals and an assist.

Joergsholm opened the scoring with a third minute goal in a first half that saw four goals scored between the two sides. The talented freshman scored again in the 24th minute on an assist from junior midfielder Cameron Emerson to give Anderson the 2-0 lead. The Bearcats would respond in the 28th minute when freshman midfielder Thibault Chretienconnected with his first career goal to cut the Trojans' lead to one.

In the closing minutes of the first half, senior defender Ian Foulger found the back of the net with a header off a corner kick from junior midfielder Oliver Brock. The 41st minute equalizer marked Foulger's second career goal with the team.

After just two minutes of play in the second half, Anderson regained the lead with a header from junior defender Timo Herrmann. Joergsholm provided the assist off a corner kick to give the Trojans the 3-2 advantage.

The Bearcats had a number of opportunities to even the score in the second half, but the Trojan defense behind freshman goalkeeper Gal Elyashiv held strong. On the game, Lander received 12 corner kicks as opposed to Anderson's three and recorded 27 shots to Anderson's nine.

The Bearcats will be seeking redemption at home against Clayton State on Saturday. The 7:30 p.m. kickoff will be Lander's first conference match of the season.
