Greenville FC, a local semi-professional soccer team, announced Tuesday that Lander men's soccer head coach Lee Squires will serve as its head coach during the team's inaugural season.
Greenville FC plays in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), which is in the fourth division of the U.S. soccer pyramid, according to the organization's web site. The club begins its season on May 4 and will play its home matches at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium on the campus of Furman University.
Squires is entering his fourth season as head coach of the Lander program. Under his guidance, Lander has accumulated a 41-11-6 overall record. In his three seasons, the Bearcats have made three appearances in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship and have advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times.
The NPSL features 98 teams competing in 13 conferences across four regions. The top teams in each conference earn a spot in the region playoffs, with the regional champions advancing to the national semifinals.
