The Lander baseball team placed six players on the Peach Belt Conference's All-Academic team, the PBC office announced today.
Bailey Connell, Mike Fitschen, Ryan Flores, Robbie Hoyt, Carson Jones and Colton Yeagerearned all-academic honors for the Bearcats.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee the program.
Connell, a junior exercise major from Waxhaw, N.C., has played in 39 games with 14 extra-base hits and 21 RBI.
Fitschen, a sophomore business major from Margate, Fla., has played in all 48 games this season and is batting .291 with 31 RBI.
Flores, a sophomore buisness major from Garner, N.C., has made 14 appearances out of the bullpen with 11 strikeouts.
Hoyt, a junior business major from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., leads the Bearcats with four saves and has also picked up two wins on the mound with a team-high 20 appearances.
Jones, a junior exercise science major from Asheville, N.C., leads the team with 13 home runs and 32 RBI this season.
Yeager, a sophomore business major from Jacksonville, Fla., is batting .309 with 31 RBI and leads the team with nine doubles and eight steals.
Lander begins Peach Belt Conference Tournament play on Friday morning in St. Augustine, Fla., against Georgia College at 10:00 a.m.
