Lander volleyball announces 2018 schedule featuring 29 matches

The Lander volleyball team announced its 2018 schdule on Sunday, featuring 10 regular-season home matches and nine matches against teams that reached the Division II NCAA Tournament last year. The Bearcats will play 17 non-conference matches, six against in-state opponents, and 12 Peach Belt Conference matches.

"We are looking forward to getting this season underway," said head coach Ashley White. "I think we have a very strong region schedule. We are playing some top non0conference teams that are very strong, talent-wise, and I'm excited to see how we match up. We have a strong core of our team returning and what we believe to be a great recruiting class, so we have very high expectations this year. This is going to be a great year for Lander volleyball and I'm very excited to get started."

The Bearcats will open the regular season on Aug. 24 at the Convocation Center in Aiken as Lander faces Johnson C. Smith. On Saturday, Aug. 25, Lander will take on Barry in Aiken before concluding the weekend in Augusta against Mount Olive on Sunday.

Lander will travel to Emmanuel on Wednesday, Aug. 29 before heading to rival Erskine for four matches in the Fleet Classic. The Bearcats face the host Flying Fleet and West Georgia on Friday, Aug. 31. The Bearcats are scheduled to meet Virginia-Wise and North Greenville on Saturday.

The Bearcats will open the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 5, against Converse in Finis Horne Arena before returning to Aiken for their final non-conference tournament, the USC Aiken/Augusta Invitational. Lander will play Carson-Newman and West Alabama on Sept. 7 before wrapping up the weekend against Barton and Queens on Sept. 8.

Lander opens its longest home stretch of the season with a non-conference match against Limestone on Sept. 18. The Bearcats begin PBC play with contests against Francis Marion and UNC Pembroke on Sept. 21-22. The UNC Pembroke match will be the first of two matches for Lander on Saturday, as Lander will tangle with Clark Atlanta in the nightcap on Sept. 22.

The Bearcats wrap up September with road matches at USC Aiken (Sept. 25) and Flagler (Sept. 28) before stepping out of conference play with a home match against rival Erskine on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Lander follows the rivalry match with a four-game road stretch, traveling to Augusta (Oct. 5), Georgia College (Oct. 6), UNC Pembroke (Oct. 19) and Francis Marion (Oct. 20). The Bearcats return to Horne Arena to face USC Aiken on Tuesday, Oct. 23, and Flagler on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The Bearcats' final non-conference match comes on the road at Erskine on Oct. 30. Lander concludes the regular-season with a home weekend against Georgia College on Friday, Nov. 2, and Augusta on Saturday, Nov. 3.
