Chretien, Skelton selected to preseason All-Peach Belt Conference team

Sophomore midfielder Thibault Chretien and senior defender Jordan Skelton were both selected to the 11-man 2018 Preseason All-Peach Belt Conference Team, it was announced Thursday.

Chretien, a native of Laval, France, was named the 2017 PBC co-Freshman of the Year and earned second-team All-Conference honors. He was also named first-team All-Region by the United Soccer Coaches and second-team All-Region by the D2CCA. Chretien was tabbed as a PBC All-Tournament player after scoring the final goal in the penalty kick shootout in the championship game against North Georgia. During his freshman campaign, Chretien scored three goals with six assists in 17 starts as a freshman and was tied for sixth in the league in assists.

Skelton anchored the Lander back line line 2017 and was rewarded for his efforts. A first-team All-Conference selection, he was named All-Region by the United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA and was a three-time PBC Defender of the Week. Skelton played in all 20 matches for the Bearcats as Lander claimed the PBC regular-season championship for the second consecutive season and won the PBC Tournament, advancing to the regional final of the NCAA Tournament. The Bearcat captain tied for seventh in the PBC with eight goals scored and tied for eighth in the league with 19 points. A native of Newcastle, England, Skelton headlined a defense that recorded six shutouts and was second in the league with a 1.18 team goals against average. Over the summer, Skelton was named the PDL's Defender of the Year, along with being named an All-Southern Conference performer and the No. 6 prospect in the league.

Chretien, Skelton and the rest of the Bearcats open their 2018 season next Friday night, hosting Alabama-Huntsville at 7:00 p.m. on Aug. 31.
