Lander women's soccer posts first PBC shutout with 3-0 win over Young Harris

GREENWOOD – The Lander women's soccer team limited Young Harris to just three shots on goal en route to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Mountain Lions at Van Taylor Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (7-1-1, 2-1-1 PBC) earned their second win in conference play and their largest margin of victory since a 3-0 win over Mars Hill on Sept. 1.

"We grew as the day progressed," said head coach Chris Ayer. "We started a little bit slow, but got a really good goal and that helped set the tone for the rest of the day. The girls played hard, they fought hard, and they played a really good second half. I'm really excited about this group."

Lander took the lead at the 19:30 mark when Kylee Eppl made a run down the end line and lofted a pass into the box, which Brianna Taylor met with her right foot and fired past the keeper to give the Bearcats a 1-0 win.

Taking a one-goal lead into halftime, Lander pushed its advantage to 2-0 when Emily Jermstad found Taylor open in front of the net for the junior's second goal of the day, this one in the 55th minute.

Jermstad capped the scoring at the 69:33 mark, creating space outside the box before delivering a shot into the upper-right corner.

Lander held a 15-10 advantage in shots and a 2-1 lead in corner kicks. Sarah Owen made three saves to post her fourth shutout of the year.

The Bearcats travel to North Georgia next Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
