282nd Brass Band to Play Patriotic and Period Music

Ninety Six National Historic Site will host a free, family friendly “Military Life: Living History” event followed by the 282nd Brass Band from Fort Jackson this Saturday, June 17.  These events remember the siege of Ninety Six that took place from May 22 to June 18, 1781.

During the longest field siege of the Revolutionary War the Patriot troops under the command of Major General Nathanael Greene attempted to capture the Star Fort and the town of Ninety Six.  At the end of the siege on June 18, fifty Patriot volunteers, known as the Forlorn Hope, charged the Star Fort.  After less than an hour of fighting Greene called off the attack, the losses had been devastating as thirty of the men were dead or wounded.
