The annual Anne B. McKellar Memorial 5K will take place on May 5, 2018 at Hodges Elementary School. The race will start, rain or shine at 9:00 AM at the school. The proceeds from the race will go to the American Cancer Society.
Anne B. McKellar was a Special Education teacher for 28 years, the last 15 years at Pinecrest Elementary School. She was a tireless worker for her special needs students, as well as her two children Brett and Erica.
Anne first survived breast cancer but later had the cancer return in her bones and liver. Her last years of life were filled with pain, yet she continued with a hopeful and optimistic attitude. She fought her battle bravely and was an inspiration to family, friends & co-workers. It is because of her bravery and inspiration that her friends and former co-workers want to remember her.
Race day registration starts at 8:00 on race morning. Cost is $20.00 by the April 13 deadline, and $25 after that. The shirts will be mailed to late registrants. The course has been mapped & will be a 5K course. The course is fairly flat and is all asphalt or sidewalk. “I think this course could be a possible personal record course for Greenwood County runners”, stated James Parnell, a local runner who helped in re-mapping the course several years ago.
The route will start on the grounds of Hodges Elementary School and head east, up Main Street in Hodges. It will turn onto Dixie Drive for approximately three quarters of a mile and turn around to come back and finish on the school grounds.
