A car chase started this morning around 10 a.m. after Greenwood County Sheriff Deputy saw a vehicle run a stop sign at West Main and Johnston Road. As the deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over, the suspect refused to stop.
Darius Jermaine Paul, 32 was arrested and charged with failure to stop for a blue light, simple possession of marijuana, failure to stop on lawful command, malicious injury to property, operating uninsured vehicle, and improper use of tag.
Ninety Six Police Chief Chris Porter explained that the chase went down Johnston Road, then Kate Fowler and through town. Ninety Six Police officers joined in the chase and prevented Paul from traveling through the middle of town by blocking access to Hwy 34.
Paul turned back onto West Main passing Fortner Motors and continued down the dirt road toward the Parks and Rec complex.
As the vehicle entered the ballfield Paul bailed out just before the vehicle crashed through the bleachers and baseball field fence. Paul then attempted to run from officers but was quickly captured and arrested.
