Two arrested after posting quote from Supreme Court decision

Two individuals were arrested on separate cases after posting what appeared to many as a threat to local schools.

Keon Arthur Kay III, 41 of 51 Honea Path St, Ware Shoals and April Lynn Green, 33 of 34 Circle St, Ware Shoals were both arrested and charged with Breech of Peace High & Aggravated and Green also charged with Disturbing Schools.

According to the police report, Kay was the first to be arrested after finding that he had posted on his facebook page a statement found in a Supreme Court decision dated July 12, 2015 of Elonis vs. US.  According to police, Kay’s post was actually an image of the quote and not his own typed words.

(GwdToday decided not to include the actual posted statement as it refers to doing harm to schools.)

Green had also posted this on her social media page.  During her arrest Green made the following statement: “I was merely copying & pasting quotes from a similar case to which another person was accused of threatening violent acts.  Honestly didn’t think that the difference between me being at home or me being in jail was placement of quotation marks.  I had no intent on the harm of anyone.  Had I know I was going to be awaken to going to jail you bet I would have made sure there were quotation marks placed, I was simply exercising my right to freedom of speech, and constitutional rights.”

Kay and Green were arrested an transported to the Greenwood Detention Center.

Both of these social media posting created massive concerns throughout the Ware Shoals community.  This was only days after another was arrested for posting threatening statements on his social media page.

Both the School District and Law Enforcement will take all threatening types of statements very seriously in an effort to make sure all of the kids and teachers remain safe in schools.
