The Golf Club at Star Fort now allows kids to play free

Most golfers can look back and tell stories of how their parent, grandfather or some other adult helped them learn how to play golf.  Now The Golf Club at Star Fort makes changes to their policy to allow kids under 14 to play free with a paying adult.  There’s a huge reason behind this change according their Golf Pro, Zach Calhoun.

“My Grandfather was the one who got me started playing golf and it’s been a very rewarding sport for me” explains Calhoun.  “Allowing parents or grandparents to bring their children out to play could make a lasting, positive impression to them as well.  We just want to make that opportunity more welcoming here at our club”.

Calhoun explains that in the past, some parents were reluctant to bring their children because they would maybe hit a few balls or putt a few holes but would have to pay for a full round.  This was making it hard for the parent to really justify the expense.  But it’s important for kids to get this opportunity.

“The future of golf depends on our youth getting out onto the course and playing at any level to begin with” adds Calhoun.  “The more we get kids playing the more likely they will become members later”.

The Golf Club at Star Fort is planning to have several opportunities for kids to learn how to play this summer through lessons and free events at the course this summer.

There are hundreds of stories out there from pro golfers to business leaders who tell stories of how someone took a little time out of their day to take them golfing when they were kids.  Those memories will last a lifetime no matter what level of golf you decide to play.

Parents interested in more details or about golf lessons can call the Pro Shop at (864) 543-2757 and ask for Zach.

The Golf Club at Star Fort is located at 2816 Golf Course Road in Ninety Six SC.  Be sure to follow them on facebook @starfortgolf.
