Newberry Sheriff seeks shooter

On May 6 at about 8pm, several people were gathered at a residence on Adelaide Street just outside the City of Newberry for a party. Several men were outside grilling, when verbal altercation took place between two of the men.

The suspect in the shooting then pushed the victim and starting shooting at the victim, striking the victim four times. The victim is in stable condition at this time. The victim was transported to the Newberry County Memorial Hospital by a family member and was transferred to a Columbia area hospital.

Newberry City Police officers were in the area and heard the gunshots and radioed for assistance when they heard them. 

Deputies and investigators responded to the scene and processed the scene gathering physical evidence and taking witness statements.

While law enforcement believes that the witnesses know who the suspect is, they have yet to identify him. The investigation into the shooting continue s.

“I would like to commend Newberry County EMS and the Emergency Room Staff at Newberry County Memorial Hospital for their gallant efforts in their medical treatment of the victim,” said Sheriff Foster. “I am convinced that the victim is alive today because of their actions.”
