NEWBERRY, SC – Members of the South Carolina House of Representatives met from across the state yesterday afternoon, discussing a plan to renew their stand for pro-life and traditional moral values at the inaugural meeting of the Family Caucus.

The Family Caucus, a bi-partisan team of legislators co-chaired by Rep. John McCravy (R-Greenwood) and Rep. Ivory Thigpen (D-Columbia), is uniting together in the areas of life, marriage, gender, and religious freedom.  In the face of the far-left nonsense that is strangling our country, the group intends to be a vehicle to defend the principles that South Carolinians believe in.

At the event, Rep. McCravy listed five major purposes for the group: to encourage one another, to stay informed about issues currently affecting the family, to provide a venue to discuss future issues, to examine legislation together, and to encourage judges and appointees who share family values.  He explained, “There are many good people out there who are confused and demoralized by constant attacks on the family.  It’s time for us to pick up the banner and be a light.”

Rep. Josiah Magnuson (R-Campobello) stated, “Many of us in attendance were elected promising to do all we could to defend the family.  I believe the Family Caucus will empower us to take a bold stand and fulfill that promise.  I’m so thankful to be part of this opportunity.”

The Family Caucus, currently composed of 22 members, plans to hold regular meetings and provide a series of issues for focus, which will be announced soon.
