On Sept 26, 2017, Deputies with the Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on Hwy 252 in reference to an attempted theft of a utility trailer.

Deputies were advised that the homeowner had fired a series of shots in the direction of the suspects and their vehicle.  Upon arrival at the residence, deputies observed blood spatter and broken glass in the driveway. The blood continued down the driveway onto Hwy 252.  Through further investigation it as determined that one of the suspects made an advancement towards the victims causing the victim to fire shots at him.

Greenwood County bloodhound team also responded to help track down the injured suspect who had fled into a wooded area.

They successfully located a suspect lying in the woods about 400 yards into the woods suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

This person was identified as Justin Daniel Ricketts, 28 of 119 Rushton Road, Belton SC.  Ricketts was transported to Self Memorial Hospital for treatment and arrested after being released.

Two more suspects were arrested in connection with this crime.  One was Jerry Shane McDowell, 18 of 2204 Standridge Road, Anderson and the other suspects name has not been released at this time.

Deputies also linked these individuals to another theft of a motorcycle recovered on the side of the road nearby.  It was determined that they were attempting to steal the trailer to load the motorcycle onto it.

All suspects were arrested and charged with petit larceny, grand larceny and criminal conspiracy.
