Nathaniel Tyler Wideman, 22 entered the Greenwood County Court room today and plead guilty to and array of charges including escaping from jail.
Wideman escaped the Greenwood County Detention Center back on Aug 15, 2017 only to be captured the next day in Laurens County.
Wideman escaped through a narrow gap at the top of the detention fence and then jumped off the roof according to Greenwood County Sheriff Dennis Kelly. The next day Laurens County Sheriff deputies attempted to stop a vehicle that Wideman was driving. Wideman refused to stop and gave chase until he crashed his vehicle.
Wideman received 7 years for escaping, 5 years for breaking into a motor vehicle, 5 years for possession of a stolen handgun and 3 years for possession of cocaine. All sentences are to run concurrently.
“While it is good to see Mr. Wideman accept responsibility for his actions and plead guilty, the fact remains that he violated the law and escaped from the detention center” says Eight Circuit Solicitor David Stumbo.
“We are proud of the work that Laurens and Greenwood County deputies did to re-capture this man to protect our citizens, and that we could bring him to court and see him sentenced to prison for his crimes”.
