For the third year in a row, WCTEL has matched the sum of the Abbeville, Calhoun Falls, Due West, and McCormick Lions Club contribution to John De La Howe School Foundation.
This check from WCTEL will enable John De La Howe to continue to expand and enhance their educational programs. The check was presented to John De La Howe’s Karen Petit by WCTEL’s CEO Jeff Wilson, also attending the presentation were Abbeville Lions Rick Pressly and Jim Wilson along with Calhoun Falls Lion and WCTEL Board Director Robert Hester. Karen Petit recently joined the staff of John De La Howe as their coordinator of public relations and marketing.
A recent feasibility study suggests several new endeavors for the historic John De La Howe School, including a Magnet School for Agriculture. Classes in agriculture and agribusiness are becoming more popular and essential to today’s students. John De La Howe would also continue with their Wilderness program, which would educate these students with the agriculture program as well. Karen Petit stated that John De La Howe school is “one of the best kept secrets in South Carolina.”
