The man who stole a truck from a convenience store in Newberry County yesterday morning is in custody and the truck has been located.
Johnathan Wade McAbee, 32, of 526 Woodruff Street, Woodruff SC was taken into custody in North, South Carolina by the North Police Department overnight. He was still driving the stolen truck from Newberry County when he was arrested. The truck was recovered and he was taken into custody without incident.
McAbee was taken to the Orangeburg County Detention Center and will be charged this morning with several crimes by the North Police Department. Once completed, McAbee will be returned to Newberry County to face charges of Grand Larceny of A Vehicle.
McAbee went into the convenience store at about 3am and remained for some time. At around 5am, he went out to a vehicle, whose owner had left the keys in the vehicle, and stole a 1988 Ford F-150 extended cab pickup truck.
McAbee is also believed to be involved in a vehicle theft in Duncan as well as a burglary and vehicle theft in Laurens County. The stolen vehicle from Laurens County was located on I-26 near the exit that this vehicle was stolen early this morning.
