As a cool breeze came through the front door of the Hodges-Cokesbury Fire Department on Sunday, April 29, students from the West Hodges Elementary School greeted each other with warm handshakes and long hugs.
Some of the students had not seen each other in approximately 45 to 50 years. Old report cards, bulletins from plays/programs, professional photos of classes and photos taken by students were displayed on a table in the corner. This table was a center of conversation for classmates as they enjoyed the memorabilia. Before a group photo was taken, names of students and teachers who had passed away were spoken in memory.
Names of teachers, lunch room workers, and other staff were spoken as they were remembered fondly. Stories were told about learning to write the alphabet, learning to write cursive letters, learning to spell, discipline in the form of paddling from several teachers, and riding to and from school on the bus. The group decided that it would be nice to try and get together again in a couple of years.
