Three arrested, meth and marijuana seized from home in Whitmire
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said that an ongoing drug investigation in the Whitmire community culminated with the arrest of three people and the seizure of meth and marijuana from a residence in the Whitmire community.

On Friday morning, August 10, deputies and investigators from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Whitmire Police Department served a search warrant on the residence at 75 Emory Street in Whitmire. Once inside they located approximately more than 1 gram of meth and a small amount of marijuana.

Ware Shoals Police arrested a man for sexually exploiting a female minor online using the Whisper app between May 15 and May 16, 2017.

William Edward Butler, 39 of 548 Springdale Drive, Royston GA was arrested and charged with disseminating obscene material to a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor.

Man arrested for sexually exploiting minor online

Ware Shoals Police arrested a man for sexually exploiting a female minor online using the Whisper app between June 2 and June 24, 2017.

Joel William Rolston, 25 of 92 Meadow Drive, Royston GA was arrested and charged with disseminating obscene material to a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor.

Commemoration of Anniversary of the Battle at Musgrove Mill State Historic Site

CLINTON – Musgrove Mill State Historic Site protects, preserves, and interprets the American Revolutionary War battle that occurred on August 19, 1780 near the home of Edward Musgrove, a colonial settler to the backcountry of South Carolina. 

A formal Revolutionary War Battle Commemoration Ceremony will take place at the Visitor Center location at 10 AM on Saturday, August 18, 2018. Presented by local chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Children of the American Revolution, the ceremony will honor the participants of the Battle at Musgrove’s Mill.  Dianne Culbertson, Vice President General, NSDAR will lead a special program entitled “Heroines of the Revolution”.

Missing elderly man found safe

The missing 83-year-old man in Laurens County has been found safe.  Laurens County Sheriff Office issued a missing person’s report earlier this morning.  Paul Patterson walked away from his home around 8 p.m. Tuesday.  His family had reported that Patterson suffers from Alzheimer’s.

A search crew found Patterson in the woods near the home around 10 a.m. Thursday morning.  He is safe.

Abbeville Promise Campaign Advances on $1.2 Million Goal

The Freshwater Coast Community Foundation’s Abbeville Promise capital campaign has achieved a pledge total of $883,500.00. That amount equals seventy-four percent of the campaign’s $1.2 million goal. The Abbeville Promise scholarship program will give students from Abbeville County the opportunity to attend Piedmont Technical College for two years tuition and required fees.

A Hodges man was been arrested after being accused of touching a minor inappropriately.

James Alvin Elrod Jr., 58 of 4519 Highway 246 North, Hodges SC was arrested and charged with 3rd degree Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor.

Missing Teen in Newberry found Safe
Newberry Sheriff Deputies and SLED agents were searching for a missing 16 year old around the 4200 block of Bush River Road with bloodhounds and a helicopter.

Update:  Teen has been found safe as of 8:00 a.m. reporting time.

The 16 year old Hispanic female was last seen wearing a pink button down shirt and blue jeans.

It is believed the female became upset due to a recent move and ran out of the house into surrounding fields and woods. Deputies suspect the female became lost in the unfamiliar terrain.

There is no danger to the community, but are asking anyone that may have seen her or happens across her to call the Newberry County Sheriff's Office.

Peach State FCU Supports Golden Harvest Food Bank with Food and Sponsorship

AUGUSTA, GA (July 25, 2018) – Peach State is sponsoring three of Golden Harvest Food Bank’s delivery trucks this year, contributing $15,000 to help feed people in more than 30 counties in the Central Savannah River Area and upstate South Carolina.

“The sponsorship allows retail stores to avoid wasting food by efficiently delivering it to people in need,” remarked Golden Harvest’s Director of Marketing, Ann Visintainer. “Since 1982, we have distributed more than 250 million pounds of food and fed more than 14 million people. It’s the generosity of organizations like Peach State that help us make this happen.”

Four arrested after communicating sexually with minors online

Ware Shoals Police have arrested four individuals for having sexual conversations with minors through the Whisper app.

Robert James Teseniar 25, Nicholas Scott Schultz 39 and Daniel Claudie Jackson 28 were all arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and disseminating obscene material to a minor.

Gov. Henry McMaster Appoints Former S.C. Attorney General Charlie Condon as Chairman of Santee Cooper's Board of Directors

Governor Henry McMaster today announced the interim appointment of former South Carolina Attorney General Charlie Condon as chairman of Santee Cooper’s board of directors. Mr. Condon will begin serving immediately. 

The governor's nomination of Mr. Condon as chairman of the public utility's board of directors was approved by the Public Utilities Review Committee (PURC) earlier this year. However, the Senate Judiciary Committee took no action on Mr. Condon’s nomination.

Honea Path man arrested on drug and child pornography charges

GoLaurens.com reported that the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office along with the Attorney General’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence on Hwy 76 in the Honea Path area of Laurens County.

Suspect captured, identified in morning chase in Newberry County
Newberry County Sheriff says that alert members of the community and the joint efforts of the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office and State Law Enforcement Division led to the rapid arrest of the suspect who fled from a stolen vehicle this morning.

Tyler Nathaniel Adams, 19, of Lokey Street, Leesburg, AL, was taken into custody by deputies who were using canines and a helicopter to search for him when two residents saw him go under the front porch of a home to attempt to hide. The residents notified law enforcement in the area and Adams was taken into custody there without incident.

Newberry Sheriff searching for suspect who fled deputies in Holland's Landing Area
Update:  Suspect is in custody as of 11:00 a.m. this morning.


The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect who fled from a stolen vehicle in the area of Holland’s Landing in the Prosperity section of Newberry County.

The suspect is described as a white male who is 19 years of age, approximately 6 foot tall and weighing around 130 pounds with red hair. He was wearing a white shirt and red shorts. The suspect is possibly from Florida and had given non law enforcement witnesses the name Tyler Adams. The suspect had a bag with him when he fled and may have a change of clothes in the bag.

Newberry Man Charged with Murder
Curtis Brian Varner, 57, of 1315 Milligan Street has been charged with murder by the Newberry Police Department. 

On Sunday, July 8, officers with the Newberry Police Department responded to the above address on a welfare check. Once on scene, officers found an unresponsive victim. 

Police Chief Roy McClurkin said an autopsy was performed on the victim Monday, July 9 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. As a result of the findings from the autopsy, Varner was charged with murder.

On Friday, June 29, 2018, Abbeville Nursing Home held its 2nd Annual Dog Show.  Judges for the Dog Show were: Susie Coleman (DON), Residents: Judy McCombs, Juanita Clamp, Nancy Barnette, and Wendy Hembree Activity Assistant. 

Our Winners were:  1st place: Kuba, owned by Stacey Fleming 2nd Place: Layla, owned by Dianne Ledoux and 3rd Place Dexter, owned by Vickie Mentzer.  Honorable mentions were: Dexter, owned by Susan Greenfield and Georgia Bell, owned by Helen Speer.

Miss Celebrations USA crowns it's Patriotic Queens in Abbeville

On Saturday, June 16, 2018, several young ladies were crowned Patriotic Queens for the Miss Celebrations USA Pageant System. The pageant was hosted by the mother-daughter queens, Bridget and Gabriella White, who were crowned South Carolina’s Junior and Elite Miss Photogenic Queens.
