Lifelong thief sentenced to 20 years in prison

Eighth Circuit Solicitor David M. Stumbo announced Friday that a Piedmont man with a long history of theft-related crimes was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday afternoon to a charge of first-degree burglary stemming from a 2018 break-in in Laurens County.

Recent Artifacts from Fort Lindley

Friends of the Laurens County Museum and the public are invited to a meeting Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, at 5:00 pm, to view artifacts recently brought to light at Fort Lindley.  The artifacts were discovered by the Backcountry Diggers, a superb metal detecting club. This meeting will be at the new Laurens County Museum Witherspoon Building located at 116 S Public Square, Laurens, 29360.

Evacuation Orders Lifted for Beaufort, Jasper, and Colleton Counties at 3:00 PM Today
In coordination with local officials, Governor Henry McMaster has lifted the evacuation orders for all residents in Beaufort, Jasper, and Colleton counties, effective at 3:00 PM today, Thursday, September 5. 

At the request of local officials, evacuation orders for Charleston, Dorchester, Berkeley, Georgetown, and Horry counties remain in effect as Hurricane Dorian continues to pose a threat to those areas. As the storm progresses, the governor will lift evacuation orders in coordination with local law enforcement and emergency management officials.

Town of Ninety Six to hold election Nov 5

On November 5, 2019 there will be an election held to fill one seat for each of the following offices; Mayor, Town Council Wards 2, 4, and 6, and CPW Commissioner.  The filing opened on August 23rd at noon and will close on September 6th at noon.   

Voters who are registered and reside within the Town of Ninety Six may file as a candidate for the office of Mayor or CPW.   Voters who reside within wards 2, 4, or 6 may file as a candidate for their respective ward.

Big Gun Robotics LLC Expanding Operations in Newberry County

Big Gun Robotics LLC, a robotic welding company that supplies heavy equipment manufacturers, is expanding its operations in Newberry County. The more than $3.6 million investment is creating 16 new jobs over the next five years.

Founded in 2014, Big Gun Robotics LLC services the business-to-business market in South Carolina and throughout the Southeast. The company manufactures large steel assemblies for mining and heavy construction equipment like front loaders and excavators.

Ranger Guided Battlefield Hike at Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site, September 7, 2019

On Saturday September 7, 2019 Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site will be offering a guided hike of the battlefield trail. The Battle of Musgrove's Mill, which occurred on August 19th, 1780, was a vital turning point in the Patriot's fight for independence on the South Carolina Backcountry. This Ranger-led hike will cover the 1.5-mile battlefield trail, during which you will learn about why the battle was fought at Musgrove Mill, who participated, and what occurred during the battle.

The American Legion Family of Post 2 to celebrate 100th Anniversary

The American Legion Family of Post 2 is celebrating its 100th anniversary with two events. The events include a monument dedication honoring the founders of Post 2 on September 13th at 6pm. The American Legion state commander, Walt Richardson will join us in dedicating this centennial monument. This will be an event open to the public and we will have light refreshments afterwards in the Abbeville Veterans Foundation Building 200 Long Branch St in Abbeville (same locale).

Multiple injured, one fatal vehicle accident

On Tuesday, Aug 13, 2019 at approximately 6:15 p.m. two vehicles with several passengers in each collided on Locust Hill Road near Greer, SC.

According to the SCHP, Jacob Thomas Witt, 20 of Abbeville SC was traveling East on Locust Hill Road in a 2012 Chevrolet Pickup.  Also, in the truck were passengers Sawyer Evans, 20 of Greenwood and Jacob Hines, 21 of Gaffney SC.  SCHP Trooper reported that Witt attempted to avoid hitting a parked vehicle in the road and crossed over the center lane colliding with an oncoming 2011 Cadillac.

Denver Downs Farm Nominated for USA Today's 10 Best Corn Mazes In The US

Voting is taking place until August 26th 

 

For the third year in a row, the corn maze at Denver Downs Farms in Anderson, SC has been nominated for USA Today’s 10Best Readers' Choice travel award contest. The family-owned and operated farms was selected from an expert panel as a Top 20 Corn Maze and contender for the 10 Best Corn Mazes, beating out 500 other mazes in the country.

The 10-acre maze has a design theme every year and this season, the theme is “Celebrates 50 Years of the Moon Walk.”  Visitors will have fun finding their way through this labyrinth, while learning facts about the Moon Walk with information posted throughout the maze.  

 

Denver Downs Farms is no stranger to the 10 Best Corn Mazes in the country list. They have made the list twice - in 2016 and 2018 - and are only one of two corn mazes in the Southeast to be featured.

Brad Cantrell joins Countybank as VP, SBA Business Development Officer

Deputy Roger Rice Memorial Ride

The Deputy Roger Rice Ride-on Fund is excited to announce the 8th Annual Deputy Roger Rice Memorial Ride to honor fallen officers. The 8th Annual Deputy Roger Rice Memorial Ride will be hosted on September 15th, 2019 at Destination Powersports located at 23165 Hwy 76 E. Clinton, SC 29325 starting at 12:00 p.m.

There will be live music by Steele Justice, food, refreshments, raffles, vendors, auction, shirts, and so much more! Check-in starts at 12:00 p.m and bikes will leave at 2:00 p.m. It is $15.00 per bike. 

They are requesting coverage by representatives of newspaper companies, TV shows, radio stations, and free-lance journalists to give the 8th Annual Deputy Roger Rice Memorial Ride the needed exposure.
