COLUMBIA, S.C. – Reinicke Athens, Inc. (RAI), a Georgia-based leading industrial contractor, is investing $4.5 million to establish manufacturing operations in Laurens County. The investment is expected to create 30 new jobs over the next three to five years.

Area Lions Hold 67th Annual Christmas Banquet at John de la Howe School

For the 67th straight holiday season, members of area Lions Clubs gathered at John de la Howe School Dec. 11 to assure students there of a merry Christmas. Members of the Abbeville, Calhoun Falls, Due West and McCormick Lions Clubs hosted their annual Christmas banquet on the John de la Howe campus and followed their long tradition of “passing the bucket.”

SOBER OR SLAMMER! DUI Enforcement Blitz begins in advance of Holiday Season

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) launched the 2014-2015 Christmas/New Year Sober or Slammer! enforcement blitz today to combat impaired driving and reduce highway fatalities and injuries. SCDPS teamed up with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office, holding the news conference at the Detention Center.

Historical Society to remember Francis Salvador at renovated Cokesbury College

The Greenwood County Historical Society will remember the life and Paul Revere-like ride of American Revolutionary Patriot Francis Salvador on Sunday, November 30, at the newly renovated Cokesbury College in Hodges at 3:00 pm. Historian Stefan. A. Wiecki will present the details of the life of the immigrant patriot whose plantation "Corn Acres" in 1766 covered roughly two-thirds of what is now Greenwood County.

Puckett Homestead providing special lifetime memories

On November 15th, the QDMA Lakelands Branch hosted a Youth Hunt at the Puckett Homestead in Troy, SC. First time Hunters invited to participate were from the Connie Maxwell Children's Home in Greenwood, SC, South Carolina DNR's Take One, Make One Program, local 4-H Groups and QDMA's Rack Pack.

Legal, law enforcement and corrections jobs are hot commodities in today's job market. The criminal justice program at Piedmont Technical College provides students with the training they need to get started in these exciting careers.

“We try to make the curriculum as hands-on as we can, because most of the time, students really grasp the concepts when they put them into practice,” said Josh Lindsay, program director.

Laurens Sheriff arrest three connected to burglaries; one remains at-large

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating numerous burglaries in the Ware Shoals, Princeton and Hickory Tavern communities of Laurens County. During the investigations deputies learned of a Silver in color Hyundai Sonata that had been seen in the areas of the burglaries.
