May named Executive Director of the Burton Center Foundation

Jeff May, who retired as Vice President and Athletic Director at Lander University in July, has been hired as Executive Director of the Burton Center Foundation.

May served Lander in several administrative positions during his 40 plus year career at Lander.  One being Vice President for University Advancement and Executive Director of the Lander Foundation.

May is no stranger to Burton Center having being associated with the organization for the past 40 years, serving several times as Chairman of the Burton Center Board of Directors.

“As a member of the current Foundation Board, Jeff has already given so much to help make Burton Center the outstanding organization it is today. As Executive Director, Jeff will help motivate the Burton Center Foundation Board and staff to accomplish the foundation’s goals. He will spearhead fundraising to help the foundation build and maintain long-term relationships with key donors and potential donors. With Jeff’s knowledge of the community, nothing will be impossible because he will put his mind and heart into doing an awesome job,” stated Mary Margaret, Chairman of the Burton Center Foundation.

The Foundation was formed in 1986 as the support arm of Burton Center to educate and attract private support to enhance the programs provided by Burton Center.

“We are excited that Jeff is leading a new era for our foundation.  Jeff has had a longtime passion for helping people with disabilities and special needs.  He will certainly enrich the lives of the people we serve,” stated Jimmy Burton, Executive Director of Burton Center.

Burton Center serves over 1,000 individuals with disabilities and special needs in Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Lexington, McCormick, and Saluda counties with 420 staff members.

“I look forward to working with the Foundation and Burton Center staff to enhance the much needed programs offered by Burton Center,” stated May.

As most everyone in Greenwood agrees, The Burton Center couldn't have made better hire than Jeff May. Anything that Jeff is passionate about succeeds- it's that simple. He is a difference maker. Smile with me as we watch Jeff bring people together. Congratulations to Jimmy Burton and everyone involved in providing opportunities and support for those with disabilities and special needs! Three cheers for The Burton Center and our good friend Jeff May!
