Man arrested after Sheriff finds dead dogs on former kennel property

On Sept 21, 2018 Greenwood County Sheriff arrested a man after finding 3 dead dogs on the property that was the former Airport Kennels.

Adam Christian Dowell, 25 of 2518 Airport Road, Greenwood SC was arrested and charged with Ill Treatment of Animals.

According to the report, Sheriff Deputies responded to the residence after receiving information that there may be a possible animal neglect situation at the location above.  When Deputies arrive at the property and began talking with Dowell they could smell something dead on the property.

Dowell told Deputies that they have been living there over a month and that the property belong to a family member living in New York.  He also said the dogs on the property belonged to someone else but he was told to care for the dogs.  Dowell said a few days ago some dogs began to die and he did not know why.

According to the officer the residence was not taken care of and other dogs appeared very malnourished.  Also noted that the kennels had spider webs all over and did not appear that the doors had been opened in a while.

Dowell said “I did not know what I was doing” and “I have never had experience with dogs like this”.

This guy didn't know how to provide food and water for these animals?? South Carolina needs to increase the severity of the punishment(s) for animal neglect and/or abuse.
