2012 Election Update

GwdToday has compiled a list of all the candidates who have officially filed for all the offices up for election this year. We will be conducting interviews with all candidates who wish to participate in the coming weeks and months. Here is the complete list of all candidates that have filed for public office as of noon on March 30, 2012.

Nov 6, 2012 (Election Date)

US House of Representatives – Greenwood County is part of the 3rd Congressional District in South Carolina. The office is currently held by Jeff Duncan. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

(I) Jeff Duncan (R) vs Cason Gaither (D) vs Brian Doyle (D)

State Senate – Districts 4 and 10 are up for election in 2012. Those seats are currently held by William H. O’Dell (District 4) and Floyd Nicholson (District 10). The election will be held November 6, 2012.

District 4:  (I) William H. O’Dell - Unopposed

District 10:  (I) Floyd Nicholson (D) vs. Chet Royston (R)

State House of Representatives – Districts 12, 13, and 14 are up for election n 2012. Those seats are held by J. Anne Panks (District 12), Lewis E. “Gene” Pinson (District 13), and Michael A. Pitts (District 14). Gene Pinson has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2012. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

District 12:  (I) J. Anne Parks - Unopposed

District 13:  John McCravy (R) vs Shannon Riley (R) vs Robert Merritt (D)

District 14:  Michael A. Pitts - Unopposed

Eighth Judicial Circuit Solicitor – Jerry Peace currently holds the office of Eighth Judicial Circuit Solicitor. David Stumbo recently declared that he will seek the office. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

Greenwood Mayor
 – The mayor of Greenwood is currently Welborn Adams. Filing officially opens August 1, 2012, at noon and closes on August 15, 2012, at noon. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

(I) Welborn Adams

Greenwood City Council – Wards 1, 3, and 5 are up for election in 2012.  Filing officially opens August 1, 2012, at noon and closes on August 15, 2012, at noon. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

Ward 1:  (I) Nikki Hutto vs. ?

Ward 3:  (I) Betty Boles vs. ?

Ward 5:  (I) Johnny Williams vs. ?

Greenwood County Sheriff – Tony Davis is currently the Greenwood County Sheriff. He is currently unopposed. There is a two week window for filing as a write-in candidate. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

(I) Tony Davis - Unopposed

Greenwood County Coroner – Jim Coursey currently holds the office, but has announced that he will not seek re-election. The candidates below have declared their intention to run for Coroner. There will be a Primary Election between the two Republican candidates. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

Marcia Kelley-Clark (D) vs Sonny Cox (R) vs Buddy Gunter (R)

Greenwood County Clerk of Court – The Clerk of Court is currently Ingram Moon, but she has announced that she will not seek re-election. There will be a Primary Election between the three Republican candidates. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

Chastity Sheek (R) vs Angela Woodhurst (R) vs Jane Harvey (R) vs Felicia Moton (D)

Greenwood County Council – Districts 4, 5, 6, and 7 are up for election in 2012. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

District 4:  (I) Chuck Moates - Unopposed

District 5:  (I) Patrick Moody (D) vs Steve Brown (R)

District 6:  (I) Robbie Templeton - Unopposed

District 7:  (I) Robert Jennings (R) vs Robert Fisher (R)

Commissioner of Public Works – One seat is up for election in 2012. Filing officially opens August 1, 2012, at noon and closes on August 15, 2012, at noon. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

School District 50 – Seats 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9 are up for election in 2012. Filing for these seats officially opens August 7, 2012, at noon and closes on August 21, 2012, at noon. The election will be held November 6, 2012. Thos seats are currently held by:

Seat 5:  (I) Tony Bowers vs. ?

Hodges Town Council – 4 seats are up for election in 2012. Filing officially opens August 1, 2012, at noon and closes on August 15, 2012, at noon. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

Troy Town Council – 2 seats are for election in 2012. Filing officially opens August 1, 2012, at noon and closes on August 15, 2012, at noon. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

Ware Shoals Town Council – 2 seats are up for election in 2012. Filing officially opens August 1, 2012, at noon and closes on August 15, 2012, at noon. The election will be held November 6, 2012.

Ware Shoals Mayor - Filing officially opens August 1, 2012, at noon and closes on August 15, 2012, at noon. The election will be held November 6, 2012.
