Alice Frances "Daughty" McKellar Lawrence Granade, 98

Alice Frances “Daughty” McKellar Lawrence Granade, 98, of 1110 Marshall Road, died Monday, January 21, 2013 at Hospice House.

  Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Katherine Edmonds McKellar.  She was a graduate of Greenwood High School, attended Converse College and Lander College and was a graduate of the University of Georgia.  Daughty served as the assistant society editor and feature writer for The Index-Journal, then went on to host the Musical Clock radio program for WCLO (Janesville, WI), under the name of “Alice Susanne”.

  Daughty was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was past president of the Presbyterian Women.  She was also a member of the Greenwood Supper Club and enjoyed her garden club.

  She was married twice, first to the late Jack Lawrence and then to the late Joseph Granade.  She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Alice Lawrence; her sisters, Katherine Temple Resch, Imojean McKellar Lawrence, Susanne McKellar Heyward and Adrianne McKellar Beaudrot and her brother, Donald Bruce McKellar.

  Surviving are her three sons, Ben Lawrence (Becky) of Greenwood, Jack Lawrence (Kay) of Spartanburg and Russell Lawrence (Shirley) of Greenwood; grandchildren, Benjamin McKellar “Kellar” Lawrence (Jill) of Greenwood, Tara Bailey (Jim) of Summerville, Robert B. Lawrence of Hendersonville, NC, Sara E. Lawrence (Rick Carlisle) of Raleigh, NC, Ann Lawrence-Parker (Ashley) of Spartanburg, Alice L. Arnold (Eric) of Greenwood and Elizabeth R. Lawrence of Charleston; great grandchildren, Ward McKellar Lawrence, Selah Grace Lawrence, Ann Elizabeth, Rebecca and Blair Bailey, Brett, Blake and Jay Parker.

  Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Larry Duncan officiating. 

  Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the church service, in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

  Pallbearers will be Abney Wallace, John Cobb, Stephen Sanders, Furman Mauldin, Bobby Ellerbe, Bill Thomason and John Park.

  The family will receive friends following the service in Alexander Hall.

  Family members are at their respective homes.

  Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 426, Greenwood, SC 29648.
