Mary Whatley - Greenwood

Mary Mayson Whatley, 94, former resident of Callison Highway, widow of Hollie S. Whatley, died Monday, January 2, 2017 at Magnolia Manor.

Born in Edgefield, May 6, 1922, she was a graduate of Edgefield High School and was a retired beautician.  Mrs. Whatley was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Wayne Whatley and wife Susan of Greenwood and a daughter, Roxie Smith and husband Jerry of Greenville; three grandchildren, Stacey Harward and husband Dustin of Easley, Mark Smith and Stephen Smith, both of Greenville; along with seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday at Mountain Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Charles and Rev. George Hill officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mark Smith, Stephen Smith, Reeve Smith, John Langley, Warren Johnson and Bobby Johnson. 

The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 Thursday afternoon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emerald Baptist Church Building Fund, 110 E. Laurel Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29649.
