Gloria B. (Dolly) Reynolds, 90, joined her Heavenly Father on March 8, 2017 surrounded by her family.
Born August 29, 1926 in West Stockbridge, MA< she was predeceased by her husband Homer A. Reynolds and her parents, Richard Modesto and Louise Emprimo Battistoni. Educated in Pittsfield, MA, Gloria became employed by the Army Security Agency in Arlington, VA decoding messages during the WWII era. After the war, she married and became a homemaker for her husband and children.
Homer retired from the Army in 1960 and the family settled in Greenwood. Gloria obtained a position at Lindsey’s Men’s Shop and enjoyed that position until she became the finance director at Piedmont Technical College from where she retired after 22 years. After retiring, she enjoyed her community service positions, playing Bridges (and other card games), spending time with family and friends, and working part-time at the Chamber of Commerce.
Gloria was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, their Senior Bowlers, and Catholic Women’s Club. She was a founding board member of MEGALS (McCormick, Edgefield, Greenwood, Abbeville, Laurens, Saluda) Rural Health Initiative, served for many years at the Soup Kitchen, and volunteered with the Festival of Flowers.
A loving and generous mother, wife daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dolly enjoyed friends of all ages and continued gathering new friends all her life. Always a joy to be with, she loved entertaining and being entertained. She was always delighted to make new friends and lend a helping hand whenever she had the opportunity.
She is survived by her son, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Richard (Cindy) Reynolds, daughters, Sandy (John) McCord, Cathi (Len) Satterfield, and Kym Newton (Michael Seymour), grandchildren, 1LT Reynolds Satterfield, Angie Riddle, Emery (Bethany) Satterfield and Jasmin (Sam) Watts, and her great-grandson and sunshine Tristan Ellis.
A private burial will be held at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will at 11:00 AM Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The family will receive friends in the church after the service.
