Kathleen McDowell - Greenwood

Kathleen Hipp McDowell, 94, widow of James O. McDowell, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Saluda County, September 25, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John Harold Hipp and Carrie Coleman Hipp.  Mrs. McDowell was a graduate of Saluda High School and was formerly employed by Big Star Grocery Store and retired from Park Seed Co.  She was a member of Mathews United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her three children, Ann McFerrin of Simpsonville, Fred McDowell and wife Dr. Betsy McDowell of Ninety Six and Jean Langrehr of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Cynthia Bergen of Pelzer, Tracy Greene and husband Daniel of Greer, Travis McFerrin of Seattle, WA, James R. McDowell and wife Robin of Seneca and Wendi Reed and husband Adam of Parrish, FL; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren and devoted companion, Odis Gray of Greenwood.  

Mrs. McDowell was predeceased by two sons-in-law, Glenn A. Langrehr and Rene McFerrin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Adam Reed officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be James R. McDowell, Daniel Greene, Travis McFerrin, Art Sutherland, Steve Laughlin, John Ward, Jacob Greene and Jeff S. Fuller.

Honorary escort will be members of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class of Mathews United Methodist Church along with Dr. John Holman.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 Friday afternoon.
