Nelda Gravley Waits, 70, resident of 520 Andrews Chapel Road, wife of Willie R. “Billy” Waits, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Hospice House.
Born in Greenville, April 5, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Olive Irene McCall Gravley. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and attended Piedmont Technical College. She was formerly employed by United Telephone Company. Nelda enjoyed camping, reading, crocheting and dearly enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are a daughter, Lynn Rush Wells and a son, Lee (Rochelle) Rush, both of Greenwood; a sister, Wilma (Randy) Day and a brother, Mike (Debbie) Gravley, all of Greenwood; two step-sons, Ricky (Lisa) Waits of Hodges and Michael Waits of Chester; a step-daughter, Lisa Ann (Tony) Nation of Columbia; two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother and his wife, Bennie and Bobbie Gravley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3PM Thursday at First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with Rev. Bryant Sims officiating. Burial will be in the Friendship Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, Highway 178, Ninety Six.
Pallbearers will be Steeler Rush, William Weaver, Ricky Waits, Michael Waits, John Day, Alan Day, Jeff Griffin and Jay Gravley.
The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 2PM Thursday.
The family is at the home of Wilma and Randy Day, 202 Anita Way and will receive friends at the church from 2 til 3PM Thursday.
