James Theodore “Ted” Mabrey, 90, resident of Cothran Drive, widower of Patricia Albe Mabrey, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at his home.
Born in Abbeville County, April 3, 1927, he was a son of the late Ralph and Fannie Mae Green Mabrey.
He was a graduate of Greenwood High School. Mr. Mabrey was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII. He retired in 1990 as Director of Production from the Index Journal after 48 years of service.
Ted was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, member of Hejaz Shrine Temple, member and past Master of Greenwood Lodge # 71 AFM also serving as secretary for a number of years. He was a member of the Greenwood York Rite Masons and past District Deputy Grand Master of Masons.
He was a member of Harris Baptist Church.
Twice married, he was first married to the late Mary Kinney Mabrey.
Surviving are his daughter, Wanda Mabrey Witt and husband James; a son, Jerry Mabrey and wife Lorraine of Ridge Springs; grandchildren, Scott Witt and wife Megan of Greenville, Brian Witt and wife Jana, Adam Witt and wife Nicole Jamey Thomas and husband Tim all of Greenwood, Jerry Mabrey, Jr. of Augusta and Lisa Mabrey; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Cooper; step-sisters, Joyce Thompson and husband Billy and Betty Long and husband George all of Abbeville; care givers, Tammy and Louis Dukes, Rosa Alexander and Betty Simpson and special friend, Josie Walker. Predeceased by a brother, Robert Mabrey and a son, Robert David Mabrey.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Thomas officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Brian Witt, Scott Witt, Adam Witt, Tim Thomas, Jamison Tinsley, Cooper Tinsley, Chip Funderburk and Louis Dukes.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Wanda and James Witt, 104 Partridge Road, Cherokee Hills and will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM.
