William Abner “Wink” Coursey, 89, of South Main St., died Friday, November 10, 2017 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born October 21, 1928 to the late David Price and Elizabeth Dominick Coursey, Sr., Wink graduated from Greenwood High School and received his BS in Business from Furman University.
Wink was a former member of the Greenwood Lions Club where he had served as President., he was a member of the Nine O’Clock dance club, and The Catilion.
Wink as well as many others, considered himself to be the best shagger in Greenwood, especially when dancing with his favorite partner Betty Jo Payne. When they danced, people would give them the whole dance floor. Wink was a world traveler and a very generous man, helping people financially at times without hesitation.
A lifelong member of South Main Baptist Church, Wink, in his younger years, was the Training Union Leader.
Surviving are his sisters, Florence Coursey Jones of Atlanta, Ga, and Betty C. Warner of Greenwood; his neices, Joyce Vosburgh, Linda Jones, Susan Warner Johnson (Donald), and Betsy Warner Brown (Marc); his nephew, Robert Hayne Jones,Jr. (Tammy); his very special friend and caregiver for 17 years, Tim Stewart, whom affectionatley called him Pappy. He was predeceased by a brother, David Price Coursey, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 AM from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
