David Lightsey - Greenwood

David G. Lightsey, 87 resident of 119 Orchard Park Drive, husband of Betty Day Lightsey, peacefully passed away with the love of family and devoted caregivers Sunday, February 4, 2018 at NHC-Greenwood.

Born in Fairfax, October 25, 1930, he was a son of the late Ralph Leon and Eula Harrison Lightsey.  He was a graduate of Fairfax High School, The Citadel and was a US Air Force Veteran.   David was employed at SCE&G in Columbia before relocating to Greenwood to work with Chickasaw, where he later retired. After retirement he was employed by Citizens Trust Company. He is remembered for his model work ethic established while working on the family farm that continued through his later years. David has spent a lifetime of selfless devotion and service to his family, church, work and community. He was member of St. Mark United Methodist Church where he was a member of the church choir, volunteered at Self Regional Healthcare and was a past member of the Rotary Club of Greenwood. David believed it was important to go the extra mile, leave a place better than you found it, and treat others as you would be treated.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are his daughters, Deborah Lightsey (Lee) Hundt of Augusta, GA and Sally Lightsey (Wayne) Burton of Edgefield; grandchildren, Austin Gresham, Francis Gresham, Suzanna Jones, Elizabeth Hundt and Olivia Hundt; five sisters and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11AM Thursday from the Chapel of First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Charles Moates officiating. Inurnment will be in Edgewood Cemetery.

The family is at the home in Orchard Park and will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 Thursday morning at First Baptist Church before the service and immediately following.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Volunteer Services, Attention: Sandra Williams, 1325 Spring Street, Greenwood, S.C. 29646 or to NHC HealthCare, 437 E. Cambridge Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.
