Mary Coker O’Dell, 74, resident of 216 Greenway Drive, wife of Thomas Lamar O’Dell, passed away April 1, 2018, at her home.
Born January 24, 1944, in Greer, she was a daughter of the late Roy O. and Grace Jones Coker. She was a 1962 graduate of Wade Hampton High School and 1966 graduate of Lander College (now University). She retired from teaching at Ware Shoals High School after more than 30 years of service.
A member of Hodges Presbyterian Church, she was also a Sunday School teacher, Elder of the church and Moderator of the Presbyterian Women. She was a member and Past President of the Daffodil Garden Club and was a Master Gardener with the Clemson Extension Service. Mrs. O’Dell was an avid reader and loved the beach.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are two daughters, Jane and husband Vance Cooper of Ware Shoals and Elizabeth Hewlett of Greenwood; three sons, Jeff and wife Kirby O’Dell of Ware Shoals, Paul and wife Sara O’Dell of Greenwood and Brad O’Dell and fiancée Melanie Dyal of Ware Shoals; five brothers, Roy, Jr. and wife Billie Coker, Charles Coker, Ron and wife Priscilla Coker, Don and wife Jewel Coker and Bill Coker; grandchildren, Amy Cooper, Andrew Cooper, Haley Cooper, Thomas O’Dell, and MacKenzie O’Dell.
Funeral services will be conducted at Hodges Presbyterian Church 2:00 pm Wednesday with Rev. Dr. Hampton Hunter and Rev. Dr. Ted Morton officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Thomas O’Dell, Dalton Boyter, Andrew Cooper, Adam Creswell, Keith Hodges and Vance Cooper.
Honorary escort will be members of the Beach Bunch, Presbyterian Women, and the Daffodil Garden Club.
The family is at the home in North Fall Acres and will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening.
