Bernice McKaba - Greenwood

Bernice Miller McKaba, 83, resident of Lagrone Road, widow of Dimitri “Dan” McKaba, died Saturday, September 29, 2018 at her residence.

Born in Greenwood, November 29, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Bernice Maynard and Eunice Hodges Miller. She was a graduate of Greenwood high school and worked as an operator for Southern Bell Telephone Company. She was twice married, first to the late Marion Symmes Lagrone.

Growing up she was known to be tomboyish, and enjoyed showing her Jersey Cows for the 4-H club. She loved the movie channel and would watch her preachers on Sunday from morning until early afternoon. She was a beloved Mother and Grandmother.

Surviving are her son, Michael Miller Lagrone of Hodges; her daughter- In-Law, Dawn Crawford of Hodges; her grandchildren, Rachel May Lagrone, Brannen Michael Lagrone, Braedon Micah Lagrone, Heather Pauline Lagrone, and Shaean David Lagrone all of Hodges; her cousin, Harold Hodges of West Columbia; and her three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, John Kerry Lagrone.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. from Harris Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home, Sunday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. The remains will be placed in the church at 1:00 P.M.

Memorials in Bernice’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court Glen Allen, VA 23060-9979.
