Verna Steed Kennedy, 88, widow of Clyde W. Kennedy, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Hospice House.
Born in Thomson, GA, December 31, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Charles Vernon Steed and Ruby Tankersley Steed and step-daughter of the late Marie Steed. Mrs. Kennedy was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and was an active participant of the Chancel Choir. She was also a volunteer with the Self Regional Healthcare Auxiliary and was an avid Clemson fan.
She is survived by her five children, G. Michael Kennedy (Linda) of Brandon, MS, Linda K. Burton (Jimmy) of Greenwood, C. Craig Kennedy (Marsha Sperling) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, C. Patrick Kennedy (Jan) of Moore, SC and Gary L. Kennedy (Diane) of St. Augustine, FL; three sisters, Edith Austin (Russell), Thelma Pepper and Margie Fredrickson; ten grandchildren, Russell J. Burton, Gregory M. Kennedy, Jason M. Kennedy, Mary K. Easley, Kerry D. Gromley, Lauren K. Greer, Kevin Stinnett, Phil Stinnett, Jennifer Fairchild and David Doleac along with fourteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Kennedy was predeceased by sisters, Jan Long, Elizabeth Harper Chamblee, Janette Davis and Billie Marie Harrison.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Dr. Dan Smyth and Rev. Steve Brown officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Joe Polatty, Homer Sears, Brian Waldrep, Bill Lloyd, Joe Kovac and Glen Davis.
Honorary escort will be members of the St. Mark United Methodist Church Choir.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 Sunday afternoon at the church.
