Anita Faye Nichols, resident of Kimbrook, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018, at Emerald Gardens.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Joel Horace and Clara Proctor Nichols.
She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and received her Bachelors of Arts from Erskine College in 1961 and her Masters of Education from Clemson University. Ms. Nichols retired, after serving over 30 years as a teacher with Greenwood School District 50.
While attending Erskine College, Anita began a lifelong love of Bridge. She was a member of the “Ritzie” Bridge club and played with dear friends monthly for over 40 years. After retiring she enjoyed playing with additional Bridge groups.
She was an avid gardener and became a Master Gardener through Clemson Extension in 1994. Her garden was on tour many times for the Festival of Flowers.
She spent 18 wonderful years with Phil Tipton sailing and enjoying the Cooper River Marina and Yacht club in Charleston.
A member of First Presbyterian Church, she was also a former member of the Greenwood Women’s Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Ginger E. Long of Greenwood; a brother, Joel (Janice) Nichols of Rock Hill; a sister-in-law, Donna Nichols of Greenwood; a grandson, and nieces and nephews. In addition, she is survived by her 18 year companion, Phil Tipton of Easley.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Jennifer A. Long; a brother, David M. Nichols and a sister, Virginia Nichols Holsomback.
The family will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 2 to 3:30 Monday.
