Catherine “Tee” Everett Cowan, 93, resident of Wesley Commons, former resident of 201 Sheffield Road, widow of David Earl Cowan, Sr., passed away Tuesday, December 04, 2018, at Wesley Commons.
Born May 16, 1925, in Spartanburg, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Walker Everett and Catherine Lawson Link Everett. She was a 1942 graduate of Abbeville High School and a 1946 graduate of Winthrop College attaining a Bachelor of Science in Education. Mrs. Cowan retired from Greenwood School District 50, as a 1st grade teacher at Woodfields Elementary School.
A member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood, she was also a member of the Henry Reynolds Sunday School Class and worked diligently in the Stephen Ministry of the church. She served her church on many levels including as a Sunday School teacher in various grade levels and as a teacher of Vacation Bible School. She was a past Chairperson or co-chairperson many times of the Circle; served several terms on the Chancel Committee; worked tirelessly on the culinary committee and served as bereavement meal coordinator for the Spiritual Enrichment Committee. Mrs. Cowan served on the church officer nominating committee and the Keenage Council. She was nominated for Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women. She was also active as a volunteer for many organizations including Self Regional Medical Center, the Hospice Store and Meals on Wheels.
Surviving are two daughters, Catherine “Bunny” and husband William Milam of Simpsonville and Rachel and husband Bob Huggins of Pomaria, SC; a son, David E., Jr. and wife Donna Cowan of Greenwood; seven grandchildren, Billy (Pam) Milam, Alison (Mike) O”Shaughnessey, Todd (Kristin) Milam, Cappy (Ben) Traywick, Rebecca (Jim) Edens, Emily (David) Liptak and Jennifer (Thomas) May; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The Committal Service will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday at Long Cane Cemetery in Abbeville followed by a Memorial Service at First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood at 2:30 pm with the Rev. Dr. Kyle Hite officiating.
The family will receive friends in Alexander Hall of First Presbyterian Church from 1:30 to 2:30 Thursday afternoon and will be at the home in Sheffield at all other times.
