Thelma Vess Kirby, 85, resident of 124 Westgate Drive, widow of Harold Cecil Kirby, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Self Regional Medical Center.
Born March 10, 1933, in Old Fort, NC, she was a daughter of the late Alley and Fairie Vess. She was retired from Greenwood Mills (Harris Plant and Cotton Department) after over 40 years of service.
A member of Harris United Methodist Church, she was also a member of the Cooper-Reed Sunday School class of the church and was a Shrinette and member of the Mary Pinckney Ouzts Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are a daughter, Lesa and husband Charlie Cotten with whom she made her home; two sons, David C. Kirby and Daniel and wife Karen Kirby, all of Greenwood; a sister, Frances Parker of Old Fort, NC; a brother, Mack and wife JoAnn Vess of Greenwood; five grandsons, Joshua Kirby, Clint Steifle, Dillon Steifle, Haydon Kirby and Griffin Kirby.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Monday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kathy Hudson and the Rev. Dr. J. William Harris officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons along with Scott Roberson.
The family will be at the home on Westgate Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 Monday morning.
