Viola Cannon - Greenwood

Viola Thelma Banks Cannon, 87, widow of Jason Edwin Cannon, Jr, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at her home.

Born in Greenville, September 1, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Richard Ollie and Myrtle Lee Bryant Banks.  Mrs. Cannon was a graduate of Parker High School in Greenville and she, along with her late husband, relocated to Greenwood from Greenville in the mid-1960’s to operate Cannon Motors Volkswagon, from which she retired.  She was a member of Dunean Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, cooking and bowling before her illness.

Surviving are her two children, Gail Butler and husband Jack of Greenwood and Jason Edwin Cannon, III and wife Stacie of Honea Path; three sisters, Ruby Dillard, Betty Cote and husband Frank and Dot Matthews, all of Mauldin; three grandchildren, Justin Cannon of Ware Shoals, Jarrett Butler of Baltimore, MD and Colby Cannon and wife Tara of Greenwood; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Chloe and Maddox Cannon.

Cryptside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday at the Oakbrook Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum with Rev. Tom Cartledge officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Chapel Mausoleum.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.

The family would like to thank Jackie Smith, Vera Lewis, Robin Cooper, Annette Culbreath and Shirley Jones for their care and compassion during Mrs. Cannon’s illness.
