Polly Alexander - Greenwood

Pauline Stone “Polly” Alexander, 98, former resident of Woodlawn Road in Greenwood, widow of Jack Franklin Alexander, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Givens Highland Farms Retirement Center in Black Mountain, NC.

Born in Williamsburg County, SC, near Lake City, she was the daughter of the late James Briley Stone and Ethel Rectina (Reck) Hanna Stone.  Mrs. Alexander was a longtime resident of Greenwood and retired from Eastwell Sportswear.

A member of Harris Baptist Church, she was also a member of the TEL Sunday School Class and was active as a nursery worker and served in numerous roles over her many years of attendance.   Polly was hardworking and fiercely loyal to friends and family and dearly loved gardening and other outdoor activities.

She was predeceased in addition to her husband of 71 years and her parents, by her son, Jackie Wayne Alexander of Greenwood and three sisters, Ruth Stone of Pamplico, SC, Odie Mae Stone Tyler of Florence and Rosa Lee Stone of Florence.

Surviving are a daughter, Sylvia Alexander McCollum and husband William R. McCollum of Swannanoa, NC; as well as five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Saturday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Eck officiating.  Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 to 1 Saturday afternoon.
