Hal Sloan Stockman, 68, resident of Scotch Cross Road East, husband of Gail Smith Stockman, passed away Monday, June 3, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.
Born December 23, 1950, in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Andrew Carwyle “A.C” and Roilene Trent Stockman. He was a 1969 graduate of Greenwood High School and attended Lander University and Spartanburg Methodist College. He was a former member of the US Army Reserves and was retired as Deputy Chief from the Greenwood City Fire Department. Hal was also a long time employee of L.B. Adams.
A member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, he was also a member of the Joy Sunday School Class of the church and was a member of the SC State Retired Fire-Chiefs’ Association, Rabbits Unlimited and The Golf Club at Star Fort.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 44 years are two daughters, Tara Michelle Stockman and special friend, Brian Brown of Ninety Six and Tina Stockman Lunsford and husband Heath of Greenwood; two brothers; a special aunt, Rose Towles of Ninety Six; three granddaughters, Carlee Elizabeth Stockman, Meri-Emma Lunsford and Lucy Marie Lunsford.
He was predeceased by a brother, Carl Stockman.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2PM Thursday at First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with Rev. Bryant Sims and Mr. Gene Adams officiating. A private burial in Elmwood Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Honorary escort will be Richard Gardner, Gene Adams, L.B. Adams, Steve Brown, Lee Funderburk, Stewart McDonald, Glen Readett, Larry Duncan, Tanner Hall, Wendell Hall, members, coaches and staff of the 2A State Champion Ninety Six Softball Team and members of the Joy Sunday School Class
The family is at the home and will receive friends at First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church from 5 to 7 Wednesday evening.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 2107 Mt. Moriah Rd., Greenwood, SC 29646.
