Thelma Davenport South, 95, former resident of Truitt Avenue, widow of John A. South, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at NHC Healthcare of Greenwood.
Born April 30, 1924, in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Ben P. and Bessie Satterfield Davenport. Mrs. South was retired from Greenwood Mills-Sloan Plant.
A member of Abney Memorial Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Tapither Sunday School Class, the WMU and Sunshine Club of the church. She was also a former member of the Red Hat Society, the Harbor Heights Community Club, the Harbor Heights Bridge Club, and the Panola Community Club.
Surviving are a sister, Onie Fleming of Columbia; two grandchildren, Ed Fulenwider and Linda Clay; two great-grandchildren, Jamie Fulenwider and Christopher Fulenwider and a step great-grandchild, Darren Fulenwider.
She was predeceased in addition to her husband by her daughter, Jeanette South; a sister, Dorothy Banks Eaton; three brothers, Otis Davenport, Bill Davenport and Ellis Davenport.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brent Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Davenport, Kenneth Lothridge, John Davenport, Tim Davenport and Perry Davenport.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 11 Friday morning.
