William Arvie Southerland, 80, resident of Madison Street, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019, at Hospice House.
Born October 1, 1938, in Clinton, he was a son of the late George Willis Thurmond Southerland and Suda Norris Southerland. He served in the SC National Guard from 1956 to 1964, and retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant as Outside Maintenance Supervisor and had previously worked at the Compound and the Adams Plant, totaling more than 47 years of service with the company, becoming a member of the Quarter Century Club.
He was a member of Abney Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Tina Upton of Greenwood and Angela S. and husband, Christian Wypasek of Montclair, NJ; a sister, Gladys Dillashaw and husband Jack of North Charleston; and six grandchildren, Courtney Upton, Nichole (Daniel) Sorrow, Krystyn, Kathryn, Jada May and Joanna Wypasek; and a great-grandson, Logan Sorrow.
He was predeceased by a sister, Margie Beshers.
Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 pm Saturday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Andy Bowers officiating. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Sorrow, Larry “BoBo” Kellum, Jerry Scott, Ansel Smith, Wayne Walker, Mike Cain, Eric Lowery, Chandler Rearden, Ronnie Goard, Christian Wypasek and Justin "Bud" Thomas.
The family will be at the home on Madison Street and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Friday evening.
